“Sir, I understand the concepts but I am not able to solve problems.” is the most common concern I hear from students on a regular basis. And this is the motivation behind writing this book.
Problem solving is the litmus test of your understanding. If you cannot solve problems you have not understood the concepts no matter how many formulas or definitions you have got remembered. It is as simple as that.
Problem solving is a skill which can be developed. And there is a method to it. Even an average student can do exceptionally well if taught properly and systematically. The present work is an attempt in that direction. It has grown out of several years of experience in teaching Physics to students aspiring to enter IITs.
All chapters and their contents are presented in a sequence which promote learning and develop problem solving skills. Each topic starts with zero level problems and steadily grows to intermediate level difficulty. Very difficult or challenging problems have been avoided. The purpose and hope is to develop students to a level where they start feeling capable, confident and motivated to attempt solving more challenging problems on their own.
